What Is The Main Basis For Choosing A Tension Clamp?

The selection of the Tension Clamp is mainly determined according to the different conditions of the power line conductor. There are two common situations.

1. Selection of line tension clamps when using LGJ and LJ wires

When the LGJ or LJ wire is used, since the tension clamp is clamped on the outer diameter of the wire, the type of the tension clamp to be used is selected according to the outer diameter of the wire. For example, the LGJ-185/30 wire is used in the power line. It is calculated that its outer diameter is 18.88 mm. It is known from the above table that the tensile clamp used should be NLL-4, NLL-5 or NLD-4.

It should be noted here that the outer diameter of the LGJ wire is calculated from the aluminum wire section 185 mm plus the steel core section 30 mm and the outer diameter of the wire is not simply calculated from the aluminum wire section 185 mm. The LGJ wire of the same specification has different steel core sections and wire outer diameters, so the tensile clamps used for the same type of LGJ wire are not necessarily the same. In the case of an LJ wire, since it does not have a steel core, the cross section of the aluminum strand can be used to calculate the outer diameter of the wire.

In addition, since the tensile clamp is clamped on the outer diameter of the wire, we require aluminum tape on the outer layer of the LGJ or LJ wire during construction to prevent damage to the wire during crimping.

2. Selection of Wedge Tension Clamp when using insulated wires

Compared with bare wires, insulated wires have the advantages of high safety and reliability, reduced line loss, and small wire corrosion. When using insulated wires, we need to pay attention to the fact that because the tension clamps are clamped on the outer diameter of the "wire" rather than the outer diameter of the "conductor", it should be based on the outer diameter of the wire. The outer diameter of the conductor is chosen to match the type of tension clamp used.

In addition, we need to evenly tighten the screws when installing the tension clamps. It is required that the wire stress increase phenomenon does not occur at the contact surface between the installed wires and the metal to prevent the wire damage caused by the breeze vibration or other wire oscillation. Ensure that the tension of the tension clamp on the wire is not less than 95% of the wire breaking force.
